Summary

FestiveHelper does not ask you to create an account and does not collect personal information through forms. Everything you type into the tools, such as names, amounts and weights, is processed inside your own browser and is never transmitted to us. We do use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functions and, with your consent, for advertising.

Information you give us

The only way to send us personal information is to email us. If you do, we use your message and address solely to reply and to deal with what you raised, and we keep it no longer than necessary for that purpose.

Information the tools handle

Names in the Secret Santa generator, entries in the gift budget calculator, turkey weights, tree heights and prices are all processed locally by JavaScript running on your device. This data is never uploaded, never stored on a server and is discarded as soon as you close or refresh the page.

Information collected automatically

This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like almost all web hosting, GitHub records technical information when a page is requested, which can include your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser type and the referring page. This is used for security and to keep the service running. GitHub’s handling of that data is covered by the GitHub Privacy Statement.

Cookies and local storage

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. Local storage is a similar mechanism that keeps a small amount of information on your device. We use them in two ways:

• Strictly necessary. We store your cookie consent choice and your preferred currency (dollars, pounds or euros) in your browser’s local storage. These stay on your device, are never sent to us, and exist only so the site behaves the way you asked it to.
• Advertising. If you consent, our advertising partners may set cookies used to select and measure ads. These are described below.

You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page, and you can clear cookies and local storage at any time in your browser settings.

FestiveHelper is free to use and is funded by advertising. We intend to use Google AdSense to serve ads on this site.

If you reject non-essential cookies in our banner, advertising cookies are not set through our consent mechanism and any ads shown should be non-personalized.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Because we do not operate accounts or databases, in practice we hold personal data only if you have emailed us. Where we rely on consent, which is the case for advertising cookies, you may withdraw it at any time through the Cookie settings link in the footer. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

Our lawful bases are consent, for advertising cookies, and legitimate interests, for keeping the site secure and available and for replying to messages you send us.

Your rights in California

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell your personal information. Advertising cookies set by our partners may constitute sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising under the CCPA and CPRA; rejecting non-essential cookies in the banner, or using the Google opt-out links above, gives effect to that choice.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and it will be deleted.

Data transfers and retention

Our hosting and advertising providers operate internationally, which means technical data such as IP addresses may be processed outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards those providers publish. We retain email correspondence only for as long as it is needed to deal with your enquiry.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the site or in the law. The date at the top shows when it was last revised, and material changes will be reflected in the consent banner where appropriate.
